Item Description

An outstanding and aesthetic rhodochrosite miniature from the famous Wolf Mine. Spherical clusters of lustrous, translucent, pretty rose-red scalenohedrons cover the mounded sculptural matrix. The dramatic, well-placed, single, 8 mm, doubly terminated rhodo with rare for the locale, highly lustrous goethite botryoids, are super accents. This noted mine in Siegerland, Germany is famed for having produced the finest crystallized rhodochrosite specimens in Europe and for many years were considered the finest in world. The mine operated continuously from 1870 to 1925 and then sporadically until 1962. Good specimens are today quite difficult to find and are very highly desirable. Classic and excellent old-time rhodochrosite.
