Item Description

Classic and excellent spessartine, rhodonite and galena from famed Broken Hill. All three minerals are signature species from here and this showy piece is from the North Mine, which produced the finest spessartines. Gemmy, very glassy, sharp, cherry-red to reddish-orange dodecahedrons, to 7 mm, are very aesthetically lined up on the galena and rhodonite matrix. The crystals GLOW, when backlit. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1504 and acquired in 1959 or 1960. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Classic highly representative spessartine combination material from Broken Hill.
