Item Description

A gorgeous, RARE, OLD, red gem tourmaline from famous Barro do Salinas. The old faded F. Krantz label dates from after 1890 to the early 1900s! The matte termination of the glassy, well-striated crystal is underlain by a stunning cherry-red to rich cranberry-red section. The basal section becomes more pink. The layered crystal has striking water-clear gem sections and veiled areas. Complete all-around. The back has a large contact groove (not damage), where another crystal once lay, but has very little bruising, adding dramatic appeal to the crystal. The back of the termination is bruised. The crystal GLOWS, when backlit! This is significant and important OLD tourmaline from this noted area. 27 grams mass. Valued at $2500 and worth it. BETTER in person! THE COLOR SATURATION IS SHOCKING!
