Item Description

Nagyagitei s a rare lead, antimony, gold, tellurium sulfosalt, was first described from this ancient locality in 1845. It actually gets its name from the old Hungarian name for Sacarimb, (Nagyag). Several metallic, lamellar crystals measuring up to 6 mm are mixed in / on Quartz and pinkish Dolomite on matrix. Smaller crystals are scattered about and you can see sections/veins of Nagyagite on the sides of the matrix. Specimens from the historic type locality are quite rare and this is a very fine and rich example. This specimen is over 160 years old, and certainly a VERY worthwhile pickup for any collector. Valued at $750 for the quality, overall displayability and size. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #71). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
