Item Description

A classic and really showy display piece of this classic association from one of the most well known mining districts in England. Several very sharp and lustrous, gemmy to translucent, very slightly smoky color Quartz crystals with the well-known doubly-termianted bi-pyramidal habit are associated with brilliant metallic silvery Hematite (variety "Specularite") "rosettes" and minor soft pink rhombs of Dolomite. The largest Quartz crystal measures 2.1 cm. Hard to find on the market today, especially in such good condition with excellent displayability. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #153). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
