Item Description

Carpathite is an organic hydrocarbon - a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), - formerly referred to as Coronene, Karpatite or Pendletonite. The chemical formula is C24H12. This piece is a from arguably the best known locality for Carpathite, the Picacho Mine (Los Picachos), which is a former Mercury producer. This piece features gorgeous, prismatic, bright yellow monoclinic crystals of Carpathite which are associated with small red Cinnabar on matrix. This is certainly rare material, and to find a piece associated with Gold is exceptionally rare in my experience. The Carpathite also shows a gorgeous blue fluorescence under both SW and LW UV light. This piece was collected by Rick Kennedy.
