Item Description

From the collection of Richard Kosnar (the namesake for Kosnarite), here we have a piece from Rich's home state of New Jersey. The piece comes with an old label from noted east coast mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address it dates to 1946-1957. It features a sharp, well-formed, dark pinkish blocky crystal of Rhodonite (referred to as "Fowlerite" on Ford's label) sitting on Calcite matrix with minor black Franklinite. The Rhodonite measures 1.6 cm long. Fowerlite a calcium bearing variety of Rhodonite, but I have no analysis to state whether or not this piece contains any calcium, so it should be best left as Rhodonite for the sake of labelling.
