Item Description

This specimen is around 40 years old, as it resembles other Barites from Quiruvilca that I have seen which were found in the 1970's. Here we have a great display piece featuring sharp, lustrous, layered, bladed, white color, semi translucent Barite crystals measuring up to 8 mm sitting on matrix. A good small cabinet of this hard to find material with minimal damage. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that says it's from "Peru", but I'm certain that it's from Quiruvilca as it was probably the only mine in Peru during the time period when it was catalogued that was producing this specific type of Barite.
