Item Description

A beautiful little specimen of micro Gold on Quartz from the famous Homestake Mine in South Dakota. This locality was discovered in 1876 during the Black Hills Gold Rush and operated until 2002. When it closed in 2002 it was the largest and deepest gold mine in North America. The mine produced more than forty million troy ounces of Gold during its lifetime. This piece came from a miner who worked at the Homestake and self-collected the specimen. Small "leaves" of vibrant yellow Gold can be seen sitting on the edge of the specimen. Beautiful to view up close. These specimens are hard to find on the market, and certainly worth picking up for anybody who collects worldwide Gold specimens or specifically Gold from the United States.
