Item Description

A really cool historic Stilbite specimen from the Austrian Alps that was collected by Dr. W. Schmidt of Kamen (a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) on June 10, 1940 according to the labels that accompany the piece. The old label from Dr. Schmidt actually refers to the species as "Desmin" which is an archaic name for Stilbite. Several bladed / layered off-white colored crystals of Stilbite measuring up to 8 mm are gently sprinkled on the underlying matrix. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11928) with a beautiful old hand-written label from Schmidt. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A beautiful and attractive old-timer from this lesser known locale.
