Item Description

You don't see a lot of specimens of Cyanotrichite from any localities in North America. I think that the most famous material is from the Grand View Mine in Arizona, but many people might say that the second most well-known locality for the species is the Peacock Mine in Lemhi County, Idaho. It's uncanny how similar the specimens are from both localities. This is a wonderful specimen featuring "velvety", acicular fibers of glowing blue color Cyanotrichite which are associated with deep blue Azurite and mint Malachite color on oxidized matrix. If you look at the piece with magnification, you can spend a long time enjoying these tiny beautiful crystals. N.B.: There is a bit of confusion surrounding this locality, but an article from Lanny Ream on his website talks about how the Peacock Mine is most likely NOT the locality for this material. With that said, we still label these pieces as coming from the Peacock Mine, but if you read the article Lanny states that he and a friend were able to collect specimens of Cyanotrihcite, Azurite and Malachite at the Iron Dyke Mine in Stroud Gulch (just east of the Peacock Mine) If you'd like to check it out, here's the link http://www.lrream.com/idaholocalities.html
