Item Description

The ancient mining district at Pribram dates back many centuries, and was one of the major silver, lead and zinc producers in all of Europe. Even though the area was filled with lead, good specimens of crystallized Galena are nearly impossible to obtain. This impressive display specimen features dozens of sharp, well-formed, rich silvery-grey colored cuboctahedral crystals of Galena intergrown and free of matrix creating a gorgeous nearly full cabinet sized specimen. The front of the piece is in superb condition overall, and you just don't see pieces of this size and quality on the market. If you collect lead minerals, sulfides or old classics, do NOT miss out on this one. It's hard to photograph, but better in person. Valued at $1,500 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11897). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
