Item Description

A true rarity from the Czech Republic, not in terms of the species, but rather the locality. There are many lead mines in the Usti (formerly known by its German name Aussig) Region and Cerussite is found in the majority of these localities, but this piece is special as it is the only specimen of Cerussite ever found at Moldava. The label accompanying the piece comes from noted Czech mineral expert Josef Vajdak, and it clearly states that this is the only Cerussite from Moldava. Now other pieces may have been found since this piece was discovered, but this one remains the first (and only?) specimen of this well known mineral from this historic mining area. You can see several sharp, translucent, smoky colored Cerussites - some of which show distinct crystal faces - sitting on the host rock matrix. The underside of the specimen actually shows a bit of massive purple Fluorite. A really cool specimen for any collector of secondary ore minerals, worldwide Cerussites or Czech minerals. As mentioned, the piece comes from Josef Vajdak / Pequa Rare Minerals. You can read Joe's biography here: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1371
