Item Description

Starting in the 1990s we saw a lot of Uvarovite Garnets on the market coming from the Saranovskii Mine (Saranovskoye) mine in Russia - which is the type locality for the species. THIS piece however is from the lesser known Biserskoye Cr deposit and features small (1-2 mm) crystals of deep emerald colored Uvarovite sitting on a layer of Chromite matrix. Only a few Uvarovites are undamaged, but this piece is all about the locality as it's virtually impossible to obtain any specimens from this locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1618). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
