Item Description

Poland is known for producing some impressive and colorful Halite specimens, and the pieces from Klodawa are very reminiscent of the more recently discovered blue crystals from the Carlsbad Potash District in New Mexico. This piece is a solid mass of Halite that is mostly white / colorless, but the upper portion of the crystals show an amazing glowing blue color. The saturation of the color is about as strong as I've seen this locality. For the most part, the piece is uncrystallized, but I can see some cubic faces on the top (blue) area of the specimen. When backlit, the color really shines through. It is not common to see Halite with rich color like this from any locality. The piece comes from the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
