Grossular Garnet ("Hessonite") with Clinochlore (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

One of the great Alpine classics from Italy are the famous "Hessonite" Garnets. The combination of the rich orange-red Garnet crystals with the beautiful green Clinochlore is iconic. This small cabinet specimen hosts several superb, sharp, lustrous, gemmy reddish-orange color crystals of Grossular (variety: "Hessonite") with associated hexagonal groups of semi-foliated green Clinochlore on matrix. The largest "Hessonite" measures about 2 mm, and the largest Clinochlore group measures 5 mm across. Very attractive up close. Beautiful, well-known material from the famous Ala Valley (Val d'Ala).
