Item Description

One of the great Alpine classics from Italy are the famous "Hessonite" Garnets. The combination of the rich orange-red Garnet crystals with the beautiful green Clinochlore is iconic. This small cabinet specimen hosts several superb, sharp, lustrous, gemmy reddish-orange color crystals of Grossular (variety: "Hessonite") with associated hexagonal groups of semi-foliated green Clinochlore on matrix. The largest "Hessonite" measures about 2 mm, and the largest Clinochlore group measures 5 mm across. Very attractive up close. Beautiful, well-known material from the famous Ala Valley (Val d'Ala). Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7898). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
