Item Description

A classic gemmy Rubellite Tourmaline from an undisclosed locality in Minas Gerais. The crystal is glassy and lustrous with a variation of pink colors ranging from a very dark red basal termination which grades into a rich cranberry hue and finishes with softer pink tones at the base. I can see a tiny bit of green bands in the crystal as well. The surface of the crystal has a bit of crazing / etching, so it has a somewhat cavernous appearance in areas. There are some nicks on the piece, so it's not damage free, but it's richly colored and pretty gemmy, so it's still a decent gem crystal example of this classic material from Brazil. Specimen weight is 22.62 grams. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
