Item Description

In the 1970's-1980's, there were several discoveries of attractive Scheelite crystals at the famous Camp Bird Mine. These specimens are certainly the most well-known Scheelites from any Colorado locality with their distinctive form and clove purple-brown hue. Like most Scheelite, these crystals will fluoresce a bright blue-white color under SW UV light. The crystals on this specimen show good bi-pyramidal tetragonal form with an almost satiny directional luster (possibly from hydrothermal etching?). The largest crystal measures 1.5 cm across, and the piece is a near "floater" group with no attached matrix. This one is certainly different from most Camp Bird Scheelites I've seen in terms of form / habit and the fact that there is no matrix. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12065). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
