Item Description

Please note that this specimen was labeled as coming from the Himmelsfurst Mine, but the Reichelt Shaft is the specific locality where Ankerite has been reported. This piece is a lovely specimen of this uncommon carbonate featuring soft pink colored somewhat "tuft"-like aggregates with beautiful vitreous luster. It somewhat reminds me of specimens of Kutnahorite I've seen from South Africa. Minor associated Quartz makes for a nice touch. I've never seen a piece of this material before, and if you collect German classics, don't miss out on this attractive and aesthetic display piece! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12878). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). Valued at $1500.
