Item Description

From the original "Japan-law" locality for the twinning habit for Quartz, here we have a lovely small cabinet display specimen featuring a very sharp, highly lustrous, GEM quality, incredibly well-formed crystal with smaller Quartz crystals free of matrix. The piece is not a "Japan-law" twin, but it does show an unusual growth as the main crystal appears to be a confluence of two crystals growing together. I can only see the smallest of nicks on the largest crystal, and aside from the base where it was removed from the pocket, the piece is in superb condition. This piece is old, hard to say how far back it dates, but it could be over a century. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3641). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
