Item Description

A hard to find specimen of the rare hydrated magnesium phosphate, Bobierrite from the Kovdor Mine in Russia. The species has been known since 1868, when it was named after the French chemist, Pierre Adolphe Bobierre. Some of the best known modern examples of the species are those from the Kovdor Mine, and examples from virtually anywhere else in the world are virtually unseen on the market. This piece features a couple of groups of tightly packed / parallel growth blades of bronze-silvery monoclinic Bobierrite measuring up to 6 mm long in a crystal-lined vug on host rock martrix. A great example of this very hard to find species from this classic locality in northern Russia.
