Item Description

These Garnets have been attributed as to coming from Lake Jaco for decades. This information is not correct as it was a deliberate attempt to conceal the actual locality from would be diggers. This piece is an excellent example of said material featuring large, robust, sharp, well-formed, distinct dodecahedral crystals of Grossular measuring up to an impressive 6.3 cm across. The piece is complete on the display side and even features a bit of greenish-brown Vesuvianite on the side. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2817). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
