Item Description

An outstanding old-time large calcite from famous Mid-Continent Mine of Oklahoma. This very sculptural piece is composed of aesthetically intergrown sharply terminated, translucent, light straw-yellow dogtooth scalenohedrons with frosted faces. The striking opposing calcites flank the impressive, 7.8 cm, doubly terminated crystal. The bit of attached matrix composed of dolomite rhombs with marcasite crystals and a single embedded galena crystal on the back are super accents. Essentially pristine, with only a lightly bruised tip to a secondary calcite. This exceptional calcite from the historic Tri-State District displays beautifully without aid and was mined in 1931, according to the former dealer label. Classic Picher Field calcite.
