Item Description

A 5.0 cm, highly lustrous, typically well-striated, tabular, terminated wolframite crystal is aesthetically embedded in dramatically contrasting emerald-green fluorite on this showy and excellent combination from this well-known mine. The gorgeous gemmy to translucent fluorite is composed of intergrown octahedrons and massive fluorite. The rich field of sharp, lustrous, brassy pyrite cubes on the back is a fine bonus. Specimens of this fine quality from this Soviet-era military-run tungsten mine came out only in the early to mid-1990s. The mine closed in 1996. Bright purple fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12333 and acquired from Erich Schmidt at the Munich Show in 1991. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Wolframite and fluorite combinations of the quality are RARE from here. valued $1250
