Item Description

A LARGE, rare, 6.0 cm, textbook, analcime trapezohedron is aesthetically set on matrix with another crystal on this major locality piece from an old and famous locale. The crystals have classic porcelaneous luster, nicely accented with the oxide tinting. Rio Fromm is a classic locality Alpine renowned for analcime and apophyllite. Complete all-around. The bit of noted basal periphery wear certainly has only minimal impact to the exceptional high quality of this 360-degree piece with a very large crystal. This is an old-time specimen, as this area was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire prior World War I. South Tyrol was annexed by Italy in 1919. The Anton Berger label, a promiment Austrian dealer, dates from about 1929 to the 1950s. Formerly in the Willard Perkin Collection, of "Perky Box" fame. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12091 and acquired from Jean Hamel at the Tucson Show in 1990. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record. Valued at $1250-1500.
