Item Description

A very hard to find green Calcite specimen from the classic locality at Concepcion del Oro in Mexico. These green Calcites are some of the most elusive and attractive Calcites from any Mexican locality as their color is derived from the inclusions Malachite or another copper-bearing mineral. This piece is a sharp, lustrous, translucent, layered, partial rhomb of Calcite free of matrix. The piece is not complete on the back, but it's still in good shape on the front. I've seen white, pink, tan and colorless Calcites from this locality, but the green ones are RARE. If you collect Calcites or minerals of Mexico, don't miss out on this one. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5356). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
