Item Description

A beautiful miniature display specimen of a sparkling, drusy purple crystals of Strengite occupying vugs in the host rock matrix. Strengite is a fairly well-known iron phosphate, but I've always been partial to the beautiful purple examples of the species, since it's such a rare color in the mineral world. If you eliminate a couple of common minerals like Amethyst and Fluorite, you find that purple is rarely seen in most minerals. The color of these Bavarian Strengites is beautiful in person, and we have photographed them with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
