Item Description

A wonderful classic old example of the gorgeous pinkish Calcites from Egremont, specifically the Pallaflat Mine. This beautiful, sharp, lustrous, well-formed, narrow scalenohedral crystal features a lovely pink internal "phantom" (caused from iron inclusions) that is visible from all side. It has good internal translucence and a very pleasing resinous luster on the surface. The tip of the crystal sadly has a small cleave, and the base of the crystal is not complete where it was removed from the pocket wall, but it's still a lovely example of this old time material dating back to the 1800s. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#843) with labels from the British Museu stating is formerly was part of the Trechmann Collection (1926), and dealer Scott Williams. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
