Item Description

A classic and hard to find specimen from the famous locality that's part of the renowned Neudorf vein system. This piece came label simply as coming from the Harzgerode area, but we're quite certain this is from the famous Rinder Shafts at Strassberg which is famous for its wide array of beautiful colorful Pyromorphite and Mimetite specimens but also produced these unique Cerussites many many years ago in very limited quantity. This is a specimen features thin, prismatic, white crystals of Cerussite on virtually every side of the specimen sitting on lead ore matrix. The largest Cerussite measures up to about 1.2 cm in the best crystallized vug, though there are a few larger crystals on the back which are not complete. The crystals have a somewhat "jackstraw" appearance, though they are a bit more scattered on the piece. Good crystallized specimens of Cerussite are hard to find on the market from this locality, and this one is certainly worth picking up if you collect German minerals or worldwide carbonates. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#530). The piece comes with an old Scott Williams label and an additional hand-written label from an unknown collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
