Item Description

This long storied historic U.S. locality has produced some of the world's finest Calcite and Fluorite specimens extant. Despite the fact that there are only a handful of minerals found at the Elmwood mine, some of them are among the most recognizable minerals in the world. This wonderful cabinet piece hosts a predominant, large, very sharp, highly lustrous, rather gemmy, beautiful golden orange scalenohedron of Calcite with several secondary Calcites, and crystallized white Barite on the base. The large Calcite crystal is twinned, as you can see the reentrant angle near the base of the crystal, and a handful of the other Calcites show the same twinning habit. This piece is in very good shape overall for the size, though there are a few imperfections here and there. These pieces are well known classics from the U.S. and this one really has it all from the standpoint of quality, size and displayability. Valued at $1250 retail. Weight is 770 grams.
