Item Description

I can say that this is the finest thumbnail specimen of crystallized Descloizite that I've seen from Broken Hill (Kabwe) in Zambia. Good specimens of this lead zinc vanadate are hard enough to find from this historic locality, but this piece features several sharp, well-formed, robust, silvery-black colored orthorhombic crystals in a beautiful group off matrix. Excellent crystallization up close, and I would say this is a near competition quality example of the species for the locality. There may be better Descloizites out there from other localities like Berg Aukus, but this one is stellar for Broken Hill. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10139). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
