Item Description

Specimens of Hematite from Altenberg are virtually unseen on the market, and they are only seen in old collections, as they were mined in 1800s. This piece is arguably the best example of this particular material that I've seen, though I've only handled a few over the years. This is a RICH specimen loaded with beautiful "Specularite" Hematite "rosettes" with a gentle reddish-silvery metallic apperance gently coating prismatic Quartz on matrix. The crystals are beautiful to view up close and really stand out as fine examples of the species from Altenberg. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8377). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). A superb German classic from this uncommon locality. Valued at $600.
