Item Description

The famous Tae Wha mine in Korea has produced some very attractive Tungsten minerals. The Scheelites and Ferberites from this mine are some of the most classic examples of their respective species. This specimen hosts a predominant, sharp, lustrous, "sword"-shaped jet black color crystal of Ferberite measuring 2.8 cm long with additional bladed Ferberites on a partial crystal of Quartz. The material was formerly referred to as Wolframite, but it's all Ferberite now. The main Ferberite crystal is in good shape, but many of the accessory crystals are contacted. The label states that there is Scheelite on the specimen, but I honestly can't find it. A great smaller miniature specimen from this storied locality that dates back decades. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7027). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
