Item Description

A wonderful little example of "Leaf Gold" from the famous Eagle's Nest Mine in California. These pieces are among the most beautiful of all Gold specimens in my mind, and this piece is no exception. This form is 100% natural, exactly the way it was found; most likely it was created as a seam-filling in the host rock. The slightly folded yet stalwart form of the piece along with its bright shiny metallic quality give it an other-worldly appearance. Additionally, one can see minute crystallization in the form of small octahedral faces on the surface of the specimen. The piece is not terribly heavy, coming in at 0.06 grams (0.30 carats) on my scale. From the personal collection of Richard A. Kosnar, Colorado mineral dealer and the namesake for the phosphate Kosnarite.
