Item Description

From the type locality for the species, this is a very good example of the rare copper arsenate Euchroite. This "Dana Locality" (formerly in Hungary) dates back hundreds of years, and has been a source of some of the msot classic eastern European minerals for generations. This piece features rich emerald green, EUHEDRAL, sharp, lustrous, orthorhombic crystals of Euchroitemeasuring up to 1.3 cm! on a gossan matrix. The most impressive aspect of this piece is that the Euchroite crystals are hardly altered, or dull, or pitted, but very smooth, with excellent consistency of color and good luster. These specimens are few and far between on the market, and the top pieces sell well into the thousands of dollars. Please note that the label states that one of the crystals has been replaced in its original spot (repaired?). A great colorful rarity from this renowned mining district in Slovakia. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3750 ). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
