Item Description

Despite the fact that there are only a handful of minerals found at the Elmwood mine, some of them are among the most recognizable minerals in the world. The classic purple Fluorites are a favorite among collectors, and it's easy to see why. This piece features a sharp, gemmy, beautiful purple color, "phantom" cubic crystal of Fluorite measuring 9 mm on edge sitting on fine crystallized, lustrous, reddish-brown "Ruby Jack" Sphalerite with minor Dolomite on matrix. The largest Sphalerite crystal measures 3.8 cm at its longest dimension. Virtually undamaged and very showy. A classic example of Elmwood Fluorite with the well-known association. Good quality for the material, and fairly aesthetic to boot. This piece is around 30 years old, and is a worthwhile display piece especially coming from this prominent and celebrated zinc ore body!
