Item Description

I have never seen a piece of this material in person before. It is a remarkable pseudomorph as one secondary lead mineral is replacing another, and I honestly don't know another locality where this specific replacement has been reported. I was really in disbelief over the validity of the label, but I actually found a photograph of this piece on mindat for reference ( https://www.mindat.org/photo-246683.html ). A sharp, incredibly well-formed and well-preserved crystal of Anglesite measuring 2.1 cm has been replaced by Cerussite and is aesthetically perched on oxidized Hematite matrix. The odd pinkish color really is distinctive as I can't remember seeing this particular hue in any crystals of Cerussite or Anglesite for that matter. The pseudomorph is actually slightly hollow on the underside, but truly does not show any real signs of damage. It's a tremendous specimen for anybody who collects pseudomorphs, secondary ore minerals or minerals of Mexico. Do NOT miss out on this chance to own this attractive and incredibly rare miniature display specimen from this classic Mexican locality. I only know of one other piece of this material, so I have to believe they came from an isolated find that we know dates back well over 40 years ago. It's impossible to ascertain a fair market value for a specimen like this, but I would certainly say to the right collector, it could go for $1,500+. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7336). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
