Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous Spessartines from Ruby Mountain - which was most likely erroneously named for the red Garnets found there - featuring a sharp, lustrous, well-formed, deep reddish colored trapezohedron of Spessartine on Rhyolite matrix. The Garnets measures 5 mm across and looks beautiful under magnification. It appears that a small amount of metallic silvery colored Hematite is on the specimen as well, but it could be Ilmenite or possibly Pseudobrookite. This piece was mined by and came from the personal collection of Dave Bergman. Dave is a Colorado miner (the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s) and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
