Item Description

Alexandrite is the color changing variety of Chryosberyl. The term "Alexandrite-type" color change is often used when a gem or mineral changes from a warmer hue i.e., pink to a cooler hue i.e., green or blue when exposed to different light sources i.e., indoor lighting and sunlight. This piece comes from Brazil and shows a 2.6 cm classic reticulated "sixling" (actually a "trilling") twin or "geminado" in a snowflake-shaped group sitting on schist matrix. Additionaly Alexandrite twins can be seen on the piece as well. The crystals are a bit dark, and don't show too much of a color change, but they are still labeled as Alexandrites. Good quality all around, and a worthwhile specimen of these well known twins. From the collection of Rolando Gioia (a contributor to new definitive book on Brazilian minerals: "Minerais e Pedras Preciosas do Brasil").
