Item Description

A rarely seen multi-crystal group of Heliodor from Brazil. The majority of Brazilian Heliodors are single crystals and this specimen hosts three distinct prisms in parallel growth. The piece is rather large for Heliodor from any locality, as the biggest crystals are over 6 inches! Unfortunately the two largest crystals are not terminated as they were most likely contacted in the pocket during the mining process. The smaller crystal does have a pristine, sharp, glassy termination and is virtually WATER CLEAR at the topmost portion. The larger crystals shows distinct, hexagonal prism faces, with only slight etching, while the smaller crystal has a bit more graceful hydrothermal etching than the other two crystals. An unusual and eye-catching big display piece of this classic and uncommon material from Brazil. From the collection of Rolando Gioia (a contributor to new definitive book on Brazilian minerals: "Minerais e Pedras Preciosas do Brasil"). Valued at $1,600. Weight is 128 grams.
