Item Description

An incredibly rare and hard to find specimen of Uraninite coated by yellow Rutherfordine from the OLD locality at Lukwengule. This historic uranium deposit is actually the type locality for Rutherfordine (a uranium carbonate species). I've only seen one other example of this material over the years, and they are certainly highly sought after by collectors. This locality is actually a pegmatite, and was worked for Mica in the early 1900s. This piece is very likely close to a century old, and would make a superb addition to a rare species suite, a thumbnail collection or to fill a spot in your Tanzanian mineral collection. The crystals are fairly sharp and well-formed, and how often does one have a chance to purchase this material?? Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6071). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
