Item Description

A classic and hard to find specimen of Almandine Garnet on matrix from an undisclosed locality in the Cahuilla District in Riverside County, California. There are several localities that produce these specimens, so it's hard to know for sure exactly where it's from, but the fact that it features a 2.1 cm sharp, well-formed, deep red colored trapezohedron on matrix is rare. It isn't rounded or crazed, like most we've seen from the area and it displays well. It's not completely damage free, with a few contacts near the matrix, but it's still in great shape overall. If you collect Garnets or minerals of California, these specimens are incredibly difficult to find, especially on matrix, so don't miss out on this one. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4864). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
