Item Description

From a new find in Poland, these are such eye-catching and unique Calcites from the Grabiszyce Quarry, which is in far southwestern Poland near the Czech border. The pieces were actually collected starting in 2015, but they were not revealed to the public until this year. According to the information online, the area that produced these specimens in nearly fnished, so there will be little available to purchase after the initial offering it seems. They made a big splash at the Tucson Show this year, and were very popular with collectors as you might expect due to their intense orange color and beautiful crystallization. The Calcites form in radial "sprays" consisting of narrow crystals on brecciated basalt matrix. Most of the cavities that produced these specimens are small and narrow, and it is very difficult to find pieces without damage and good coverage of crystals. This piece is a fine example of this exciting new material featuring a full coverage of sharp, translucent, rich orange colored crystals. No damage on the display side (save a tiny bit on the bottom edge) and very eye-catching up close. If you collect worldwide Calcites, you have to add one of these to your collection. They were certainly one of the big hits at Tucson this year, and more than likely will disappear as soon as they arrived. Don't miss out!
