Item Description

A beautiful specimen from the famous locality in the famous Val Malenco which has produced some of the finest Garnet specimens in the world. Most people are familiar with the world glass green Andradite (Demantoid) Garnets from this locale, and this piece is a great example of said material. Sharp, very lustrous, well-formed, rich green colored modified dodecahedra measuring up to 1.1 cm with addititional smaller crystals sit on typical vitreous, blue-grey, fibrous Asbestos host rock matrix. Good condition all around and very attractive up close. Valued at $1,500. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2740). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
