Item Description

From the valley where Fassaite gets it's name, here is a beautiful old time display specimen of this Augite varietal featuring sharp, lustrous, well-formed crystals measuring up to 3 mm. The "Fassasite" crystals have a lovely greenish hue with a slight golden overtone. Originally Fassaite was a valid species, but it's now defined as a low-iron variety of Augite. A great piece of this historic Alpine material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5983). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
