Item Description

A lovely and eye-catching Calcite specimen from Joplin featruing a predominant, sharp, well-formed, gemmy, fine golden color scalenohedron flaring off matrix. No real damage and a very attractive old time specimen from over 100 years ago. Ex Kay Robertson Collection with a classic old label from New York mineral dealer, George English ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=319 ). Since the label has the address of 64 East 12th Street, this means that English had the specimen between January 1893 and January 1899, so it's well over 115 years old! Oddly, Kay's label did not survive, but we still have English's label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
