Item Description

A rarely seen example of the gemmy orange-red Spessartine crystals from Poco dos Cavalos in Ceara, Brazil. These are not the more common and nearly identical examples from Navegadora, but older material and virtually impossible to find on the market today. Spessartine is the only collected mineral from this obscure pegmatite, so specimens are few and far between. This piece is lustrous and gemmy, with an attractive rich orange-red color when backlit. The surface is both striated and stepped, and the crystal is complete all the way around making it a "floater". A good, attractive display specimen of Spessartine from this for this lesser known pegmatite locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#685). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
