Item Description

A classic and scintillating specimen from Shangbao featuring a stacked modified cubic group of GEMMY, sharp, lustrous rich purple fluorite crystals associated with pale golden scalenohedral Calcite crytals. The piece GLOWS with color when backlit, and you can see through to the deep purple cores of the Fluorites, highlighting the "phantom" effect. The piece is in excellent shape all the way around with no damage to the Fluorites that I can see with the naked eye. It's also virtually a complete "floater" as I can't see a point of attachment aside from a tiny bit on the back of the piece. This one would make a great addition to a Fluorite suite or a Chinese mineral collection. Valued at $750. Ex Dr. stephen smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
