Item Description

A classic example of the famous Hematite / Rutile combinations from the world-classic locality at the Cavradischlucht (Cavradi Gorge) in the Alps of Switzerland. These are iconic specimens, and some of the most important and eye-catching minerals from not only the Alps but any worldwide locality. This thumbnail features fine quality, highly lustrous (splendent), bright silvery-grey metallic bladed crystals of hexagonal Hematite which have an expitaxial overgrowth of glowing blood red Rutile. The combination is unmistakable, and truly one of the most beautiful associations in the mineral world in my mind. This piece is from the collection of Bo Malyczewsky of Port Hope, Ontario.
