Item Description

This specimens from this locality are some of the most iconic Quartzes from all of North America. It is very difficult to find a good New Mexico Smoky specimen these days, let alone a lovely Japan-Law twin like this! This attractive "butterfly"-twinned crystal has excellent color, luster and gemminess about the equal of a good Swiss specimen. The form is wonderful, and the crystals have beautiful striations. As far as condition goes, it's not perfect, as you can see it's contacted. It is however INCREDIBLY gemmy, as are the best Smokies from the area. Due to the tabular habit of the piece, I honestly mistook this piece for an Axinite crystal momentarily. This locality is now closed to collectors by federal law and good ones are few and far between. This piece dates back to the 1960s-1970s.
